A full time, lead teacher, committed to Progressive and Alternative Education

On behalf of a progressive school offering dynamic and unique learning experiences to children aged 5-12 years, Nurture is seeking a full-time teacher, committed to progressive education, to lead one of its year 5 and 6 groups starting 1st April, 2017.

Lead Teachers work to support the intellectual and social/emotional development of children as individuals and members of a community in collaboration with their students’ families. Lead Teachers are responsible for developing and implementing curriculum in english, arts, and social studies and working collaboratively with a teaching assistant and five specialist teachers (Mathematics, Music, Science, P.E.), the arts coordinators, and other part-time support staff.

As standard, this client promotes continuous professional development and supports employees to achieve their career goals within the education sector.


The right candidate wll have:

  • substantial experience with primary school age groups
  • a deep understanding of and demonstrated commitment to Progressive Education, pedagogy, and values as well as a passion for learning
  • proven experience in designing and implementing curriculum
  • exceptional proficiency and comfort with writing and the written word, including the skills to communicate with parents and colleagues
  • experience with collaboration, and a desire to collaborat
  • a continuing desire for professional development and learning
  • high energy, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude
  • Work with administrative colleagues to support the school’s mission, students and families
  • Aa Masters is preferred


Although we have many resources available to our teachers, we do not adhere to a single textbook or published curriculum throughout the school. The opportunity exists to create and implement curriculum that will: :

  • be soundly based in developmentally-appropriate practice and evolving research on learning and brain function
  • embody the values of community, diversity, and democracy that are espoused in the school
  • make extensive use of the schools outdoor areas and the environment
