Cambridge Friends School, a Pre-K-8 Quaker school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is seeking a dynamic professional for the position of Lower School Learning Specialist. This is a one-year position. This position is seventy-five percent learning support and twenty-five percent general Lower School support as assigned. The Learning Specialist facilitates and coordinates instructional support services for individual students or in small groups. Learning support is heavily focused on language arts but may also include math or executive functioning support.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Special Education certification preferred
  • Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching techniques
  • Training in a variety of reading programs (i.e. Orton Gillingham, Wilson, Project Read, and/or Read Naturally)
  • Knowledge of a variety of methods of teaching math
  • Knowledge of various assessment measures (standardized and non-standardized) and ability to interpret data to evaluate progress
  • Strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences and the acquisition of reading
  • Knowledge of current reading, writing, and mathematics teaching practices

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with students (grades Pre-K through 5) one-on-one or in small groups to support learning goals
  • Support the differentiation of the curriculum for individual students, including coordinating with the classroom team to reinforce and integrate strategies throughout all academic subjects
  • Communicate and meet with classroom teachers on a regular basis
  • Administer academic screenings/assessments as needed
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis to update them on goals and progress
  • Attend student support team meetings each month (one per classroom), families meetings, and IEP meetings as necessary
  • Consult with teachers, parents, administration, and outside professionals regarding individualized needs of students regarding classroom and home interventions
  • Other duties as assigned
